Today, 20 May 2026, Cameroon marks its National Day — a celebration of the country’s unity, identity, and shared journey as a nation. On this special occasion, the entire team at CABY (Cameroon Bright Youth) joins millions of Cameroonians, both at home and in the diaspora, to say with one voice: Happy National Day, Cameroon!
This day holds a profound significance. It is not merely a holiday marked on a calendar; it is a reminder of who we are, what we have overcome, and where we are going. It is a moment to honour those who built this nation, to celebrate the richness of our diversity, and to recommit ourselves — especially as young people — to the work of making Cameroon a country every citizen can be proud of.
What 20th May Means to Cameroon’s Youth
For the youth of Cameroon, National Day is more than a day off school or a parade through the streets. It is a call to action. It is a reminder that the future of this nation rests, in large part, in our hands. We are the inheritors of everything our predecessors built — and the architects of everything yet to come.
Cameroon is a land of extraordinary richness: two official languages, over 250 ethnic groups, a breathtaking geography that ranges from the Atlantic coast to the Saharan fringes, from the dense rainforests of the south to the volcanic peaks of the west. That diversity is not a weakness — it is our greatest strength. And it is the youth of Cameroon who must learn to harness that strength.
At CABY, we believe that the most patriotic thing a young Cameroonian can do is invest in themselves, their community, and their country. That is why we work every day to provide the tools, platforms, and opportunities that enable young people to grow, lead, and serve.
A Reflection on CABY’s Journey
When CABY was founded in 2018 in Yaoundé by a small group of passionate university students, the vision was simple but bold: to create a Cameroon where no young person’s potential goes to waste. In the years since, that vision has taken concrete shape through hundreds of programmes, thousands of youth reached, and dozens of communities transformed.
We have run scholarship drives that put university tuition within reach of students who had almost given up. We have launched entrepreneurship bootcamps where young women and men built their first business plans from scratch and walked away with seed funding and mentors. We have organized civic education workshops in neighbourhoods where many young residents had never been inside a government office — let alone understood how to engage with one.
We have watched quiet, uncertain young people find their voices. We have seen school dropouts become community leaders. We have witnessed rural youth use digital tools to connect their agricultural cooperatives to city markets. Every story like these is, in its own way, a celebration of what Cameroon can be.
The Green, Red, and Yellow — More Than a Flag
The colours of the Cameroonian flag carry meanings that resonate deeply with our work. Green stands for the forests and hope — we cultivate hope in young people who have been told their dreams are too large. Red stands for sovereignty and unity — we build solidarity across tribes, regions, and class lines. Yellow stands for the sun and prosperity — we work toward an economically empowered youth that drives inclusive growth.
And the five-pointed star at the centre of our flag — that symbol of unity — reflects our deepest aspiration: that all Cameroonians, regardless of background, will one day share equally in the promise of this nation.
Our Message to Young Cameroonians
On this National Day, CABY speaks directly to every young Cameroonian:
You are not a bystander in this nation’s story. You are its author.
Do not wait for permission to lead. Do not wait for perfect conditions to begin. Do not let anyone convince you that your ideas are too ambitious or your background too humble. Cameroon’s greatness will not come from its natural resources alone — it will come from you.
Whether you are a student staying up late to study, a small business owner waking before dawn to serve your first customers, a volunteer spending weekends in service to your community, or a young civil servant working with integrity in a system that sometimes pushes back — you are a patriot. You are doing the work that matters.
Keep going.
CABY’s Commitment for the Year Ahead
As we celebrate today, we also use this moment to renew our commitments as an organisation. In the months ahead, CABY will:
- Launch our 2026 Youth Leadership Accelerator — a six-month programme for 40 young leaders across Cameroon’s ten regions, combining governance training, community project management, and policy advocacy skills.
- Expand our Entrepreneurship Seed Fund, increasing the number of grants from six to fifteen for youth-led businesses with strong social impact potential.
- Introduce a new Digital Skills for Rural Youth curriculum, designed to bring data literacy, basic coding, and online entrepreneurship skills to communities with limited internet access.
- Strengthen our Partnership Network, formalising collaborations with at least three universities and two government ministries to integrate youth civic programming into existing institutional frameworks.
- Publish our first comprehensive State of Youth in Cameroon report, drawing on original data and community surveys to inform national policy conversations.
These are not promises made lightly. They are commitments backed by our team’s dedication, our partners’ support, and the trust of the thousands of young Cameroonians who believe in what CABY is building.
To Our Partners, Donors, and Supporters
None of what CABY has achieved would have been possible without the generosity, trust, and partnership of so many individuals and organisations. To our donors — individuals and institutions who put resources behind this mission — thank you. To our volunteer mentors and coaches who give their time freely — thank you. To our partner organisations who open their networks to our beneficiaries — thank you. And to every person who has shared a CABY post, attended a CABY event, or simply said “what you’re doing matters” — thank you.
Your investment in young Cameroonians is an investment in the future of this country. We do not take that lightly.
Celebrating Together
Today, whether you’re watching the parade in Yaoundé, gathered with family in Bafoussam, cooking together in Garoua, or celebrating with the Cameroonian community somewhere across the globe — know that CABY is celebrating with you. We are one people, one nation, one future.
Vive le Cameroun. Long live Cameroon. 🇨🇲
With pride and solidarity,
The CABY Team
